Accessible Wet Floor Shower Installation | Ilkley | More Ability
Published: 8 January 2026
Background
Living in Ilkley, our client had a large bathroom that had become increasingly difficult to use safely due to its awkward shape and existing layout. The room featured a raised shower enclosure with a large step, which created a significant trip hazard and made independent showering uncomfortable and unsafe.
The bathroom also included an outdated WC and basin arrangement that no longer met the client’s changing mobility needs. Concerns around accessibility, ease of use and long-term independence led the client to contact More Ability for professional advice on a fully accessible bathroom adaptation.
Accessible Bathroom Design
Adaptation Surveyor Jordan visited the property to complete a detailed assessment of the bathroom and to fully understand the client’s current challenges and future requirements. Although the bathroom was generous in size, its layout presented design challenges that required a carefully considered solution.
Jordan recommended removing the existing stepped shower enclosure and replacing it with a level access wet floor shower positioned within the existing alcove. This design removed the need to step into the shower area, significantly reducing the risk of slips and falls while allowing for safer, more comfortable daily use.

As part of the redesign, the existing WC was replaced with a Closomat wash and dry toilet to support improved hygiene, dignity and independence. A wall-hung basin was specified to create a more open and accessible space, while improving ease of movement within the room.
The bathroom design incorporated a combination of mid-grey wall boards and off-white tiles, which were brought together using complementary grey tones and chrome finishes to create a cohesive, modern and easy-to-maintain space.

Wet Floor Shower and Accessibility Features
The new wet floor shower was designed with safety, comfort and practicality at its core. A thermostatic mixer shower with integrated anti-scald protection was installed to ensure consistent water temperature and added peace of mind. A shower curtain was chosen to provide flexible access within the alcove while helping to manage water flow during use.
The floor was fully covered in anti-slip Woodland Grey vinyl, creating a safe and secure surface throughout the bathroom, particularly important in wet conditions. A large towel radiator was installed to improve comfort and warmth, while chrome finishes throughout the room created a clean and contemporary feel.
The basin was fitted with a chrome lever tap, making it easier to use for those with reduced grip strength or limited dexterity. All finishing touches were selected to balance accessibility with a modern appearance, in line with More Ability’s approach to creating practical yet stylish bathroom adaptations.

Accessible Bathroom Installation
The installation was completed by Multi-Skilled Fitter Eliot, who carried out the full refurbishment with care, professionalism and attention to detail. From removing the existing shower enclosure to installing the wet floor system and new sanitaryware, the project was delivered to a high standard throughout.
Eliot worked considerately within the client’s home, maintaining a clean and organised workspace and ensuring disruption was kept to a minimum. His respectful and thoughtful approach helped the client feel supported and reassured during every stage of the installation, demonstrating the company values and reasons our customers choose us.
