Walk-In Accessible Shower | Leeds | More Ability
Published: 9 January 2025
Background
Mr. and Mrs. Wainwright visited our Leeds showroom after being referred by friends who had recently undergone similar works with us. They knew they wanted to convert their upstairs bathroom into an accessible walk-in shower room. With the growing difficulty of accessing their bath, they felt it was time to make the space safer.
The couple knew they wanted to replace their existing bath with a walk-in shower for easier use and safety. They were also keen on a low-maintenance finish, so they opted for wall boards instead of tiles and vinyl flooring for added safety. While the WC and basin were still in good condition, they decided to update the entire bathroom to create a cohesive, functional space that would meet their needs for the long term.
Accessible Walk-In Shower Design
Our Senior Designer, Andy, met with Mr. and Mrs. Wainwright to discuss their vision for the bathroom. After understanding their specific requirements, Andy recommended replacing the existing bath with a spacious walk-in shower. The new design also repositioned the shower area for easier access, ensuring the space was both safe and functional.
To further enhance comfort, Andy included a bespoke shower bench in the design. This feature would allow Mr. and Mrs. Wainwright to sit comfortably while showering if necessary. He also suggested using modern wall boards instead of tiles, offering a sleek, maintenance-free finish. For the flooring, anti-slip vinyl was chosen to provide additional safety, ensuring the shower room would be both practical and secure.
The WC and basin were retained in their original positions, while the existing radiator was reused to maintain familiarity in the space. A mirrored cabinet from the previous design was kept, helping to preserve some of the room's original character.
The couple chose a neutral, calming colour scheme to create a serene and spacious atmosphere, despite the room's small size.
Accessible Walk-In Shower Installation
Once the design was finalised, Joe, our Installations Surveyor, conducted a detailed site survey to ensure the fully project managed refurbishment proceed smoothly. Joe’s careful planning and attention to detail guaranteed that everything was in place for a seamless installation.
Jack, our experienced multi-skilled bathroom fitter, then took over the installation. Jack expertly replaced the old bath with the new shower tray, repositioned the shower, and built the bespoke shower bench. He also laid the anti-slip vinyl flooring and fitted the wall boards, ensuring every element of the design was executed to perfection. The mirrored cabinet and radiator were carefully preserved, and the entire installation was completed with great attention to detail.
The Finished Project
The completed walk-in shower transformation offered Mr. and Mrs. Wainwright a functional, safe, and visually appealing accessible shower room. The repositioned shower area, now equipped with a spacious shower tray and bench, provided easy access and enhanced comfort. The anti-slip vinyl flooring and wall boards not only improved the safety of the space but also gave the room a modern, easy-to-maintain finish.
Despite the small size of the room, the overall design created a more open and airier feel, giving Mr. and Mrs. Wainwright a bathroom that suited their needs and exceeded their expectations.
