Disabled Wet Room | Ripon | More Ability

Published: 10 November 2025

Background

Mrs Cappleman had begun to struggle with her existing bathroom setup and found it increasingly difficult to climb in and out of the bath without help. Her condition, Alzheimer’s disease, meant she was heavily reliant on daily support from her son and professional carers. To make life easier and safer for everyone involved, the decision was made to adapt the bathroom into a fully accessible disabled wet room.

Having heard of More Ability and our reputation for quality and care, Mrs Cappleman’s family contacted us directly to discuss their options and arranged an appointment over the phone. With a small bathroom space to work with, the project required a creative and thoughtful design approach to ensure all of Mrs Cappleman’s practical needs were met while maximising safety and usability.

Disabled Wet Room Design

Senior designer Simon visited the property to assess the space and discuss all requirements with Mrs Cappleman’s son. The primary goal was to create a safe, easy-to-use environment that would restore independence and provide reassurance for both Mrs Cappleman and her carers.

To achieve this, the bath was removed and replaced with a Pro-Forma wet floor tray and anti-slip Quattro flooring, creating a level-access shower area that offered both security and confidence. A folding shower seat was installed to ensure comfort during use, and because assistance would still be required, half-height shower screens with a curtain were incorporated—allowing carers to help safely when needed.

Recognising the importance of stability and support, grab rails were strategically positioned throughout the room, including a floor-to-ceiling pole within the shower area and a folding grab bar next to the new comfort-height WC, ensuring Mrs Cappleman could move around with confidence.

For added convenience, a PIR motion sensor was linked to the mirror light, automatically illuminating the room upon entry to provide safe lighting at all times, especially during night visits. The walls were cladded in Zest Ivory wall boards, chosen for their warm tone, hygienic finish, and easy maintenance. These complemented the Truffle Shore flooring, creating a clean, modern, and homely aesthetic.

Following the home visit, Mrs Cappleman’s son and family visited the Harrogate showroom, where they were able to view detailed 3D CAD visuals, explore product and finish options in person, and finalise their design choices before placing the order with confidence.

Disabled Wet Room Installation

Once the design was agreed, installations surveyor Joe carried out a detailed technical survey to finalise the specifications and prepare for installation. Multi-skilled fitter James then completed the transformation, ensuring the work was carried out efficiently and with the utmost respect for the client and her home.

Despite the compact size of the bathroom, the team’s attention to detail and clever spatial planning ensured every feature was installed neatly and functionally, maximising usability without compromising comfort or appearance.

The Finished Project

The completed disabled wet room provided a calm, practical, and accessible space designed specifically around Mrs Cappleman’s needs. The combination of easy-clean wall cladding, anti-slip flooring, well-placed support aids, and smart lighting created an environment that not only looked inviting but also offered real day-to-day reassurance for both the client and her carers.

This thoughtful adaptation has made a significant difference to Mrs Cappleman’s quality of life—allowing her to maintain dignity and comfort in her own home.

Customer 5* Trustpilot Review

After completion, Mrs Cappleman’s son kindly shared the following review on Trustpilot:

“Passmore, part of the More Ability Group, installed an assisted living wet room for my 90-year-old mother who has Alzheimer’s disease. I found them to be always courteous, responsive to our questions and gave sound advice regarding products and installation. Full documentation (plans, invoices, insurance etc) provided. Installation completed to a very high standard and at the agreed time. Excellent customer care.”

Project Outcome

This project is a clear example of how More Ability can transform a small, traditional bathroom into a fully accessible disabled wet room that combines safety, functionality, and comfort. By listening carefully to the family’s needs and applying thoughtful design and professional installation, the team created a secure, attractive, and confidence-giving environment for daily use.
