Disabled Wet Room | Huddersfield | More Ability
Published: 30 June 2025
Background
Living with progressively changing needs, Ms. Bristol from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, sought a more enhanced and safer bathing adaptation. Her existing bathroom featured a level access shower tray, a wall-hung basin, a close-coupled WC, and small square half-height screens designed for carer-assisted bathing. However, the space had become outdated, impractical, and increasingly difficult to use and maintain. To futureproof the room and enhance daily usability, Ms. Bristol turned to More Ability for expert help and guidance.
Disabled Wet Room Design
Adaptations Surveyor Nigel conducted a comprehensive home design assessment to understand Ms. Bristol’s current challenges and long-term requirements. It became clear that the limited space and dated layout were restricting both independence and safety, prompting the need for a complete redesign.
Nigel proposed transforming the bathroom into a fully accessible disabled wet room—designed to maximise space, improve functionality, and adapt with the client’s needs. A new pedestal basin with lever-operated taps replaced the wall-hung model, offering improved ease of use. The existing level access shower was fully converted into a wet room environment with a thermostatically controlled shower to ensure water temperature consistency and reduce the risk of scalding.

To enhance both privacy and dignity during assisted bathing, full-length half-height shower doors were fitted alongside a practical shower curtain. The WC remained in place, helping preserve spatial efficiency, while multiple strategically placed grab bars were installed—particularly around the shower and WC areas—to aid with movement and stability.

Modern white diamond-effect wall panels replaced the existing tiling, creating a clean and maintenance-free finish. These were paired with dark grey anti-slip vinyl flooring, which offered visual contrast and added security underfoot. Lighting was also upgraded, significantly improving visibility throughout the space.
To further increase usable space, the adaptation included the removal of a partition wall and a small storage housing—subtle but effective building works that contributed to a more open and manageable environment.
Disabled Wet Room Installation
The carefully tailored design was brought to life by More Ability’s experienced Multi-Skilled Fitter, Emil. Working with precision, pride, and professionalism, Emil delivered a high-quality installation with a focus on cleanliness, respect, and customer satisfaction.
His dedication was evident throughout the project—from prepping and tanking the flooring, to completing daily clean-ups and maintaining excellent communication.
The Finished Bathroom Adaptation Project
The completed adaptation resulted in a updated and safe wet room that not only accommodates Ms. Bristol’s current needs but is also equipped to support her ongoing wellbeing and independence. The modern, low-maintenance materials, enhanced safety features, and expanded space have together created a relaxing and dignified bathing environment.
Customer Trustpilot Review
Following completion, Ms. Bristol shared her positive experience with a glowing 5-star review:
“I had a total bathroom refit and I would like to say a big thank you. From day one the organisation was second to none. All credit goes to Emil and his work ethic. He fully prepped the flooring, his punctuality, he put in a full day's work, always polite, and always cleaned up before leaving for the day. On completion I was absolutely impressed and delighted with my new bathroom. Emil’s work was better than I expected and I’m truly grateful—I didn’t have anything to clean up after either. He did everything. AMAZING!!!”
