Disabled Wet Room Adaptation | Huddersfield | More Ability
Published: 24 November 2025
Background
Our latest client contacted More Ability seeking a safer, easier-to-use and fully accessible bathroom solution. Their existing bathroom layout — consisting of a standard bath, basin and WC with tiled surroundings — was no longer suitable for their mobility needs. Wanting a long-term, reliable adaptation that would allow them to remain independent at home, they turned to More Ability for a professionally designed and installed disabled wet room adaptation.
Disabled Wet Room Design
Adaptations Surveyor Nigel visited the property to carry out a detailed assessment. As the bathroom layout still functioned well, Nigel recommended a level-access wet room conversion without altering the footprint. The focus was on enhancing accessibility, reducing risks, and creating a modern, low-maintenance environment — all key principles More Ability emphasises in its disabled bathroom design and mobility wet room solutions.
The design incorporated a Mira ATL Flex thermostatically controlled shower, ensuring safe and consistent water temperatures — an essential feature of any accessible shower installation.

A raised-height WC was chosen for comfort and easier manoeuvrability, while a new pedestal basin with lever taps improved usability for those with limited grip or dexterity.

To transform the appearance and practicality of the room, white marble-effect wall boards were installed, offering a bright, easy-clean finish ideal for accessible bathrooms. The flooring was upgraded to Altro Aquarius dark grey slip-resistant vinyl — a high-spec option commonly used in bathroom adaptations for disabled and elderly users, providing exceptional safety underfoot and increased visibility thanks to its strong contrast with the sanitary ware.
A full-length, half-height shower screen combined with a curtain ensured the shower could be used independently or with carer assistance while maintaining dignity. LED lighting completed the design, ensuring a well-lit, comfortable and safe showering space.
Disabled Wet Room Installation
The installation was completed by Multi-Skilled Fitter Emil, whose expertise in wet room installation and disabled bathroom fitting ensured a high-quality transformation. Emil removed the existing bath, basin, WC, wall tiling and flooring before preparing the space for the new level-access system. This included thorough waterproofing and creating the correct drainage falls — essential steps in achieving a durable and fully functional wet room.
Emil worked with great care throughout the project, installing the new sanitary ware, wall boards and flooring with precision. His respectful, tidy and attentive approach reflected More Ability’s commitment to delivering a stress-free, fully project-managed service for anyone seeking mobility bathroom adaptations.

The Completed Disabled Wet Room Adaptation
The finished wet room is a modern, practical and highly accessible space designed to support safe and independent living. The combination of slip-resistant vinyl flooring, contrasting finishes, lever-operated taps and a thermostatic shower ensures the room is suitable for users with a wide range of mobility requirements.
This Huddersfield bathroom adaptation now provides a dignified and confidence-boosting environment, offering improved accessibility, ease of maintenance and enhanced safety — all key benefits of choosing a specialist in disabled bathroom design like More Ability.
