Disabled Wet Room Adaptation | Leeds | More Ability

Published: 22 August 2025

Background

Living in Leeds, Mrs Walker faced growing challenges with her existing bathroom due to her diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis (MS). The bathroom previously featured a 1200x900 shower cubicle, a vanity basin unit, and a framed WC. While functional, the layout and fixtures no longer fully supported her mobility needs, making showering both difficult and frustrating.

Seeking to regain her independence and safety, Mrs Walker turned to More Ability for a full bathroom adaptation that would provide long-term accessibility and dignity.

Disabled Wet Room Design

Adaptations Surveyor Nigel carried out a comprehensive assessment of Mrs Walker’s needs and existing bathroom space. Following the survey, a complete conversion of the room into a fully accessible disabled wet room was recommended.

The design incorporated:

> A new raised-height WC for improved comfort and ease of use.

> Retention of the client’s existing vanity basin unit to maintain familiarity and minimise unnecessary cost.

> A fully tiled wet room, complemented by an Oyster Shell poly floor hydro vinyl for safe, stylish, and anti-slip performance.

> A thermostatically controlled Mira mixer shower with rise-and-fall slide rail kit, providing safety against scalding.

> A cushioned grey shower seat and strategically positioned grab bars to maximise safety and independence.

> A discreet shower curtain, designed to preserve dignity and improve comfort during use.

> Upgraded light fittings for a brighter, more practical space.

The thoughtful design ensures both functionality and aesthetics, with Hvar cream wall tiles offering a warm, calming finish.

Disabled Wet Room Installation

The transformation was undertaken by experienced Multi-Skilled Fitter Dean, whose professionalism and attention to detail were praised by the client.

Dean began by carefully removing the existing fixtures and preparing the space for adaptation. Each element of the new design was installed with precision—ranging from the WC replacement to the fitting of grab bars and shower seat—ensuring every aspect of safety and accessibility was addressed.

Throughout the project, Dean demonstrated many of the reasons to choose us including maintaining a clean and respectful working environment, minimising disruption and keeping Mrs Walker fully informed at each stage.

The Finished Disabled Wet Room Adaptation

The result is a safe, modern, and dignified disabled wet room that has been designed entirely around Mrs Walker’s needs. With non-slip flooring, enhanced lighting, and carefully chosen fixtures, the space offers her both comfort and independence when showering.

This project highlights More Ability’s expertise in combining practicality with attractive finishes, creating a bathroom that not only meets essential requirements but also enhances daily living.

Customer Trustpilot Review

Delighted with the transformation, Mrs Walker shared her experience with a 5-star Trustpilot review:

“I have MS which you can imagine is a pain and very frustrating. I was offered a wet room so jumped at the chance to have it installed. Dean, a very pleasant man came and installed it for us. I can now have a shower thanks to Dean’s hard work and professionalism.”

Project Summary

This Leeds adaptation is a perfect example of More Ability’s commitment to improving independence, dignity, and safety in the home. By reimagining an existing bathroom into a fully functional disabled wet room, Mrs Walker can now enjoy the freedom of showering with comfort and confidence.
