Mobility Wet Room Adaptation | Ripon | More Ability

Published: 24 July 2025

Background

Living in Ripon, North Yorkshire, Ms. Kitching faced growing challenges with her existing bathroom setup. The room, which included a bath, standard basin, and close-coupled WC, had suffered significant damp issues caused by a long-standing leak. The resulting water damage had left floorboards and joists rotten, while the outdated layout and fixtures no longer met her mobility needs—posing safety concerns and compromising her independence.

Seeking a safer, more accessible solution, Ms. Kitching reached out to More Ability for expert advice and full-service bathroom adaptation.

Disabled Wet Room Design

Adaptations Surveyor Jordan visited Ms. Kitching’s home to carry out a comprehensive assessment. Given the extent of the damage and the client’s changing mobility requirements, a full strip-out and redesign was the most appropriate solution.

The plan was to completely convert the space into a fully accessible mobility wet room—providing long-term ease of use, safety, and peace of mind. With all existing fixtures reinstated in their original positions, the design included:

  • A raised-height WC to aid comfort and accessibility.
  • A new pedestal basin for easier reach and stable support.
  • A level access wet room shower featuring a sunk tray integrated below the floor, tanked and covered in Polysafe Hydro Quattro anti-slip vinyl for added safety underfoot.
  • Aspen Pearl wall tiles, providing a calming, neutral aesthetic while ensuring durability and easy maintenance.

To protect the user from temperature fluctuations, an electric thermostatically controlled shower was installed—ensuring consistent, safe water temperatures. A shower curtain was added to provide privacy and maintain warmth during use.

The room was also fully ventilated to prevent future damp problems and lighting was upgraded to enhance visibility and create a brighter, more uplifting bathing environment.

Disabled Wet Room Installation

Led by experienced Multi-Skilled Fitter Mick, the transformation was carried out with great care and attention to detail. Mick began by safely removing the old bathroom fittings and addressing the structural damage—replacing rotten floorboards and joists to ensure a sound, long-lasting foundation.

Mick’s professionalism, respect, and pride in his work shone throughout the project. Each stage of the installation was completed to a high standard, with daily clean-ups and a focus on minimising disruption to Ms. Kitching’s routine, highlighting just a few of the many reasons to choose us.

The Finished Disabled Wet Room Adaptation

The result is a safe, modern, and beautifully finished mobility wet room—custom-designed to meet Ms. Kitching’s current needs while providing flexibility for the future. With improved accessibility, enhanced lighting, and low-maintenance materials, the space now offers a dignified and practical bathing experience.

Customer Trustpilot Review

Delighted with the outcome, Ms. Kitching shared her experience with a 5-star review:

“Mick was so lovely he’s done a absolutely fabulous job I love it thank you so so much.”
