Mobility Wet Room | Northallerton | More Ability
Published: 30 May 2025
Background
Experiencing increasing difficulty using her traditional bathroom, which included a standard bath, WC, and basin, Ms Porter contacted More Ability with a view to finding a suitable solution. With daily bathing becoming a challenge, her main priority was to enhance comfort, maintain independence at home, and provide peace of mind for her family.

Mobility Wet Room Design
Adaptations Surveyor Jordan carried out a thorough home consultation to fully understand Ms. Porter’s current needs and future considerations. It became clear that the existing setup was no longer practical, and a full bathroom adaptation would offer the most effective solution.
Jordan proposed converting the space into a fully accessible, mobility wet room—a modern alternative designed to eliminate trip hazards and improve day-to-day usability.
The newly designed wet room included a raised-height WC and a raised-height basin with lever taps to improve ease of use and reduce physical strain. To provide flexibility for the future, the shower area was fitted with half-height bi-fold doors and a curtain, enabling potential carer assistance while preserving Ms. Porter’s dignity and privacy. The addition of a cushioned, fold-away shower seat and carefully positioned grab rails ensured maximum safety, support, and comfort.
A thermostatically controlled electric shower was installed to maintain a consistent water temperature and help prevent scalding, offering extra reassurance during use. Anti-slip vinyl flooring in a modern slate grey finish complemented the fully tiled walls, which featured large-format off-grey stone-effect tiles. To complete the design, cool white LED lighting was installed, creating a brighter, cleaner-looking space that improves visibility and adds a fresh, contemporary feel.

Mobility Wet Room Installation
Following the detailed planning, the installation was expertly carried out by our Multi-Skilled Fitter, John. With precision, care, and an eye for quality, John brought the design to life, ensuring that every element met the exact needs of the customer. His dedication to delivering a high-quality finish resulted in a transformation that was both functional and visually impressive.
