Accessible Wet Floor Shower Case Study | Harrogate | North Yorkshire

Published: 27 August 2020

Bathing Problem:

Mr & Mrs Bosworth hoped to update their 80’s style 3-piece bathroom that consisted of a bath with overhead shower, basin and WC. Although their bathroom was still in good condition, it hadn’t been renovated in over 35 years.

Now that their elderly father had moved in, they also required a suite that was suitable for multi- generational use without looking like a clinically adapted bathroom.

As no one in the home used the bath, they wanted to replace it with a safer showering solution that didn’t comprise on style.

Solution:

Upon visiting our Harrogate bathroom showroom to gather further information on mobility bathrooms Mr & Mrs Bosworth booked a free design appointment for one of our experienced designers to call and survey the existing space.

They were visited by More Ability Senior Designer, Andy, who reviewed their suite and discussed their bathroom wants and needs for both themselves and their elderly father.

With Mr & Mrs Bosworth wanting a suite that was safe without looking clinical. Andy used his design knowledge and safety expertise to create a contemporary shower room design with modern safety features.

Upon receiving a detailed CAD design, Mr & Mrs Bosworth revisited our Harrogate bathroom showroom to finalise their fixture and fitting choices, with the assistance of Andy.

Their new suite consisted of spacious accessible wet floor shower design with built in corian bench, to allow Mr & Mrs Bosworth’s father to comfortably sit whilst showering and a fold away shower screen to help prevent water dispersion without taking up any additional space.

Accessible sanitary ware choices included a closed coupled toilet, a slim line vanity basin that provided accessible bathroom storage and a trendy heated towel rail.

For additional safety, and to assist Mr & MrsBosworth’s father with independent showering, modern curved grab rails were also installed.

Stylish finishing touches included grey accessible wall boards that featured a contemporary wave design and complimentary ceramic slip resistant tiles applied to the floor. A large mirror was also incorporated to create the illusion of more space by bouncing light around the room.

Outcome:

Mr & Mrs Bosworth’s bathroom was transformed into a modern accessible wet floor shower suite with contemporary safety features, that the entire family can now enjoy.

Their new low maintenance shower suite has given Mr & Mrs Bosworth's father back his independence by providing him with the facilities to bathe in safety and with complete peace of mind.

What Mr & Mrs Bosworth said about More Ability:

We chose More Ability to design and build our wetroom as a facility suitable for our elderly father whilst not looking like a stereotypical “disabled” bathroom.

We are delighted with the result. Our multi-skilled fitter Steve was expert in all he did as well as being a hard worker and pleasant. Every evening the house was left in a clean state. We are delighted with the job done.
