Mobility Wet Room Case Study | Bradford | West Yorkshire

Published: 30 April 2019

Bathing Problem:

Having met at the William Merritt Disabled Living Centres AccessAbility Exhibition towards the back end of 2018, Ms Beck was keen to speak to us with regards to potential bathing solutions, as a result of struggling with her existing suite.

Impressed by our knowledge and professional approach, Ms Beck visited our Harrogate Showroom three weeks following the event whereby she booked a free design survey and quote appointment.

With an existing quadrant shower cubicle, and a run of fitted furniture that featured a back-to-wall WC and basin, the existing space was poorly designed and not very well utilised. Furthermore, and due to the high step into the shower, the existing suite was becoming increasingly difficult and unsafe to use as a result of progressive issues with mobility.

Bathing Solution:

Wanting to maximise the available space while future proofing the renovation, More Ability Surveyor & Designer, Garry, visited Ms Beck to discuss her wants, needs and requirements in more detail. With two issues at hand; the size of the available space and accessibility, Garry sought to solve both offering a solution for today, tomorrow and many years to come.

Firstly Garry proposed a level access design in the form of a mobility wet room. Maximising the available space allowed for a bespoke solution that catered for Ms Becks individual requirements and facilitated great ease of movement and navigation.

To further reiterate this, Garry changed the layout of the room, moving the wet room solution next to the sanitary ware, which doubled the size of the shower area and created two large turning circles as a result of a installing a flexible flipper screen to conceal any excess water within the wet area.

Installation Outcome:

What was a hazardous and unpleasant suite to use was transformed into a stylish wet room that, through careful design planning, maximised the available space. Featuring a purpose built mobility wet room, a wall hung basin and a wash dry WC, the newly renovated shower room was now a joy to use.

Furthermore, and as a result of concealing the cistern, pipework and services with boxing up to the height of the window, fully wall boarding the suite for a no grout finish and installing anti-slip safety flooring through-out meant a maintenance free, safe and stylish finish was achieved.

what ms beck said about more ability:

“From the very first chat at a disability event, through to the visit at my house to talk about what was feasible to actually having the work done, the whole experience was totally positive.

Yes, I couldn't fit in everything I wanted, but that's the fault of my too small bathroom rather than theirs! They did their best to work miracles in the space provided and fitted in as much as possible while leaving it uncluttered and suitable for me to use with limited mobility.

I am utterly thrilled with my new wet room and would heartily recommend them as a company. Everyone I spoke to was so professional and the work was done superbly well. Andy who did the actual work was an absolute star - he worked round me as much as possible and while I was asleep (I can sleep up to 18 hours out of 24 which doesn't leave a huge amount of time) tried to do the quieter things so as not to disturb me. So pleased!

They cost more than the other company I had out to quote, but they had so many, many more ideas and l was able to choose the units, tiles, flooring etc. that I really wanted and the overall look.

Friends and family who've visited since say it's fantastic and doesn't look like a "disabled bathroom" just a lovely stylish one - despite having a bench for me to sit on while I shower, wash and dry toilet and lots of space for me to manoeuvre round in.”
