Accessible Wet Floor Shower Case Study | Leeds | West Yorkshire

Published: 14 May 2018

Problem:

Miss Clarke had an existing 2-piece bathroom suite that consisted of a bath with overhead shower & glass screen and pedestal basin; the WC was in isolation in a separate area of the home. With an airing cupboard in the corner of the room the existing space was fully tiled around the bathing area with décor tiles and half tiled on the remaining walls with a detailed boarder.

Although a little tired in parts, but in excellent working order all the same, the main reason for the renovation works was to future proof the space due to the bath becoming increasingly difficult to manage.

Solution:

Having come recommended by a close friend, Miss Clarke’s initial enquiry was more around wanting professional help, advice and guidance. Fully aware of what she wanted to achieve and why, Miss Clarke was concerned as to whether the bath to shower room conversion was at all possible in her existing suite.

Following a detailed discussion over the phone More Ability Surveyor & Designer Garry, met Miss Clarke at her property to survey and measure the existing space to determine whether a stylish and accessible wet floor shower, as specified by Miss Clarke, was achievable before moving onto any of the design specifics.

Outcome:

Professional advice, survey expertise and a keen eye for achieving a practical design resulted into a future proofed stylish & accessible wet floor shower solution. A straight forward rip out and refit of the existing bath would make ample room for the accessible wet floor shower with the addition of a purpose built corian bench adding a safe and aesthetically pleasing touch to the design.

Relocating the basin from under the window and swapping this with the towel radiator made better use of the available space, creating a more open plan area which would increase the ability to manoeuvre if and when the time required. Finished off with contrary white wall boarding to the walls and dark grey slip resistant vinyl to the floor the accessible wet floor shower conversion was a future proofed and stylish take on a practical design.

What Miss Clarke said about More Ability:

“Complete bathroom conversion. Very pleased with all aspects of the work. Garry, the surveyor, came up with a plan that provided very practical solutions to all the adaptations needed and Craig, the chief fitter, did an excellent job of carrying out all the work. Quality of fittings and materials also very good. And the end result looks great.”
