Accessible Wet Floor Shower Case Study | Leeds | West Yorkshire

Published: 5 March 2018

Problem:

Mrs Husbands had a small bathroom that consisted of a matching 1960’s sun king bath and basin and a separate WC which was located on a lower level of the home.

Tired, dated and featuring inadequate fixtures for present needs and requirements, the 40-50 year old bathroom suite was fully carpeted and featured a bow fronted bath, matching pedestal basin, vanity unit and was half tiled in a pastel ceramic.

A stand out feature, and a rather eye catching novelty to say the least, the remaining walls were decorated in a meadow / farmers field effect paper – a never seen before bathroom decoration.

Wanting to renovate the main bathroom in order to create a stylish & accessible solution, as well as turning it into a 3-piece suite due to the WC becoming increasingly difficult to access at night, Mrs Husbands daughter contacted More Ability initially to discuss the works in more detail and arrange a site survey.

Solution:

With accessibility being the main focus and wanted outcome More Ability Surveyor & Designer Garry met both Mrs Husbands and her Daughter on site to discuss the requirements in more detail, survey the bathroom and offer additional help, advice and possible solutions.

Deciding to transform the existing bathroom into a 3-piece suite would overcome the nightly issues with regards to the separate WC however in order to make bathing easily accessible and safer Garry proposed converting the bathroom into a shower room, specifically a wet floor shower, which would also create the much needed space for the additional sanitary ware.

Outcome:

A once dated, small and unsafe bathing area was transformed into a well-executed, modern and light 3-piece wet floor shower solution whereby the finishing touches enhanced the accessible bathroom design, offering an element of precision and finesse.

Not without its challenges the bathroom presented unforeseen obstacles during the rip out of the existing suite which were easily overcome thanks to the flexible nature in which Andy, our multi-skilled installer, tackled them.

A complete transformation the new shower room was unrecognisable. Featuring a stylish glass flipper screen which enclosed the wet area, purpose built box work to enclose the pipework and cistern for the wall hung basin and WC the room was finished with boarding to walls and anti-slip vinyl to the floor.

what mrs husbands said about more ability:

“Andy's attitude was exemplary and very much appreciated at a time of family stress.”
