Mobility Wet Room Case Study | Barnsley | South Yorkshire

Published: 9 February 2017

Problem:

Mr & Mrs Cooke had an existing shower solution in the form of a shower POD that hadn’t been that long installed. Unfortunately, mainly due to design and ‘prescription’ error, the existing POD was no longer sufficient due to the high step upon entry and exit, which hadn’t been taken into consideration when planning for all future needs and requirements.

Aside from the shower the entire room needed a design and layout re-think, in order to make the most of the available space and most importantly create a solution that was safe and easy to use for all present and future needs.

Solution:

More Ability Surveyor & Designer, Nigel Dawson, met Mr & Mrs Cooke at their home to discuss their existing shower room woe’s, with a particular interest in addressing their main problems in order to offer a solution which would sufficiently overcome them.

Firstly the room in itself was of an awkward size and shape. Small in square meterage there was an intruding unusable space in the form of a chimney breast which wasn’t ideal but had to be worked with and around. Given this Nigel proposed the creation and installation of a safe and practical wet floor shower with seat, slip resistant vinyl and curtain enclosure alongside the use of corner sanitary ware.

Due to the nature of the proposed solution and itemised fixtures the design Nigel suggested to the couple not only made the most of the available space, creating ample floor exposure which catered for the need to safely manoeuvre in and around the room.

Outcome:

The finished safe & practical wet floor shower transformation was a space enhancing sensation. Thanks to Nigel and his clever eye for design the room was much easier and safer to navigate and use. Due to the couple not wanting to disturb existing tiling Nigel sourced complimentary wall boards, which would be used to enclose and seal the shower area while matching in colour and tone. Secondly Nigel’s suggestion of corner units really helped to enhance the floor space while his colour co-ordinated shower seat added a safe and complimentary finish.

what mr & mrs cooke said about more ability:

“Extremely professional outfit from the onset. Glenn (our fitter) was superb! He was professional, courteous, helpful and considerate throughout the refit – nothing was too much trouble. Would certainly recommend.”
