Accessible Wet Floor Shower Case Study | Leeds | West Yorkshire

Published: 6 July 2016

Problem:

Mrs Ambler had recently moved properties and wanted help and advice with regards to adapting her bathroom to an accessible shower room for her and her mother to use. The existing bathroom was small in stature and included a bath with shower mixer, pedestal basin and closed couple WC. It was fully tiled with vinyl to the floor in a full white crisp finish. Although the existing suite was very tidy it simply wasn’t adequate in terms of ease of use, safety and accessibility.

Solution:

Taking a multi-generational approach More Ability Surveyor & Designer, Nigel Dawson, was well aware that the provided solution had to be as stylish as it was safe in order to meet both mother & daughters wants and needs.

Having previous visited our Showroom both were aware of what solutions were available to them and as a result had a good idea in terms of overall look and feel. Having discussed these preferences in detail with Nigel it was then for him to cover the more technical aspects in terms of layout and design bearing in mind any underlying problems that the finished adaptation must solve.

For accessibility Nigel proposed the idea of a wet floor shower which was ideal for safety, future proofing in instances of deterioration and ease of use. Covering stylish elements Nigel proposed fully tiling the suite in a modern ditto grey tile and incorporating a matching corian bench rather than a shower seat. Finishing the suite for both style & safety Nigel designed the room inclusive of a raised height WC and wall hung basin with chrome fittings to suite.

Outcome:

The transformed bath to shower room conversion was a perfect example of how something safe could be equally stylish. A whole generation apart the adapted wet room was capable of meeting both mothers and daughters personal wants, needs and desires thanks to clever design and a keen eye for detailed finishing touches that totally lifted the overall look and feel.

what mrs ambler said about more ability:

“A beautiful wet room that I love! Darren our fitter was great (I even miss his singing). Don’t ever let him leave Passmore’s & More Ability!”
