Mobility Wet Room Installation in Shipley | More Ability

Mr and Mrs Dent found More Ability online while searching for a safer, long-term bathroom solution and booked a free online design appointment. Their existing bathroom was becoming increasingly difficult to use, particularly for Mr Dent who has significant balance issues.
The original layout included a bath, shower, basin and WC, but the room was poorly configured and felt cramped. The door opened directly onto the basin, circulation space was limited, and the bath restricted safe movement around the room. Although there was a walk-in shower, the raised tray and fixed enclosure made access challenging, especially as Mr Dent requires zimmer frame access.
The family’s goal was clear: remove the bath, fully reconfigure the space and create a true level-access mobility wet room that would allow safe, comfortable showering now and in the future. Their daughter was closely involved throughout the process, seeking reassurance that the finished bathroom would provide complete safety and peace of mind for both parents.
Mobility Wet Room Design
Senior Designer Nigel led the design, starting with a full rethink of the room layout to maximise space, accessibility and ease of use. A complete rip-out allowed the bathroom to be transformed into a fully level-access wet room, suitable for zimmer frame use and future mobility needs.

To visually define the showering area while keeping the room open and modern, contrasting wall finishes were selected. The wet area features a striking grey and white chevron-effect wall board, while the adjacent walls are finished in complementary dark grey large-format tiles. This combination creates interest, depth and a clear sense of zoning without the need for screens or trays.
A deep lagoon blue anti-slip vinyl floor was chosen to provide excellent slip resistance and confidence underfoot. Chrome fixtures and fittings were used throughout to maintain a clean, contemporary look, while practical mobility features were seamlessly integrated. These included a raised-height WC with drop-down support rail, a wall-hung basin to keep the floor area clear, additional grab rails, and a transferable shower seat with curtain for flexible and safe showering.
Storage and usability were enhanced with a large wall mirror and a secondary mirrored cabinet, while an anthracite towel radiator introduced contrast and warmth to the space.

Following the initial design appointment, Mr and Mrs Dent were very happy with Nigel’s proposals. Due to the importance of getting every detail right, they also attended a showroom appointment where full CAD visuals were presented and finishing touches such as wall finishes, flooring and brassware were finalised with expert guidance.
Mobility Wet Room Installation
Once the design was agreed, Installations Surveyor Joe carried out a detailed site survey to ensure the space was fully prepared for the transformation. Multi-Skilled Fitter Daniel then completed the installation, managing the full rip-out, layout changes and wet room construction with care and precision.
Where small issues arose that were not apparent at survey stage, these were resolved quickly and efficiently, ensuring the project stayed on track and disruption was kept to a minimum. The result was a smooth, well-managed installation delivered to a high standard, all of which demonstrates the main reasons our clients choose us.

The Finished Mobility Wet Room
The completed mobility wet room is a calm, spacious and highly practical environment that supports independence without compromising on appearance. The level-access shower area, carefully positioned support rails and clear floor space make the room easy and safe to use, while the modern finishes ensure it feels welcoming rather than clinical.
Most importantly, the new wet room has delivered complete peace of mind — not only for Mr and Mrs Dent, but also for their daughter, who now knows the bathroom is safe, accessible and future-proofed.

Customer 5 Star Review
After completion, the family shared their experience in a 5-star review:
“Quality service from start to finish. The surveyor provided excellent advice for changing our bathroom to an accessible one. Knowledgeable on products which would make bathing easier. Showroom provided additional ideas and samples of wares. Installation on time and where small issues arose that weren’t apparent at survey all resolved very quickly. Plumber absolutely excellent — couldn’t fault his workmanship. Bathing experience much improved. Decision to go with this company couldn’t be faulted. Thank you in particular to Nigel and Dan.”
