Mobility Wet Room Case Study | Leeds | West Yorkshire

Published: 3 February 2022

Problem

Mr & Mrs Kirke’s bathroom consisted of a bath with overhead shower, basin and WC.

With them both now struggling with mobility they hoped to install a safe and comfortable bathing solution.

Design solution

In search of safe and practical solution for her parents Mr & Mrs Kirke’s daughter called in to book a free design appointment for a More Ability Senior Designer to visit their home and discuss the variety of mobility bathrooms available.

Mr & Mrs Kirke were visited by Senior Designer Nigel who discussed with them their bathroom design wants and mobility requirements, surveyed their bathroom and provided them with a provisional quote dependent to their fixture and fittings choices.

Design Solution

Using his extensive bathroom knowledge and expertise Nigel created a spacious wet room design.

He then invited Mr. & Mrs Kirke to visit our Leeds Disabled Bathroom Showroom to present them with a visual CAD of their new wet room. Nigel also assisted Mr & Mrs Kirke with selecting their final fixtures and fittings.

Mobility Wet Room Installation

A mobility wet room with a fixed foldable seat allowing Mr & Mrs Kirke to rest their legs whilst bathing was installed by More Ability Multi-Skilled fitter Mark.

The accessible wet room shower also consisted of a shower curtain to stop water splashing around the room and to provide additional privacy should Mr & Mrs Kirke need bathing assistance from a carer in the future. Mr & Mrs Kirke’s bath was also removed.

Other accessible sanitary ware options included installation of a comfort height toilet allowing Mr & Mrs Kirke to get on and off the toilet with less strain on their legs and hall hung basin to create additional floor space.

Floor and wall coverings included installation of low maintenance beige marble effect accessible wall boards that complimented the current tiling within Mr & Mrs Kirke’s bathroom that they wished to keep and anti-slip vinyl flooringto help prevent any nasty slips or falls.

Chrome grab rails were also fit within the shower area to assist with mobility when entering the area and a modern chrome towel warmer was installed to warm their towels whilst they shower.

Outcome

Mr & Mrs Kirke’s bathroom was transformed into a safe and spacious mobility wet room.

What Mr & Mrs Kirke Said About More Ability:

A huge debt is owed by my wife and to all your team.

Initial visit – informative, relaxed professional.

Design – thoughtful & efficient.

Receptionist on the phone – bright , cheerful, informative – excellent telephone manner.

‘labourer’ – prompt. Efficient.

Fitter – Mark was a revelation. He arrived at 7.15am prompt and never really stopped all day. He kept us in the loop every step of the way. He got to know my wife and treated her with respect and kindness. We cannot speak highly enough of him. He is a super ambassador for your company.

P.S. One complaint! Mark’s taste in music is awful! Whatever happened to Classic FM and radio 4.

:) sadly my wife loved it!! No accounting for my taste!!
