Disabled Shower Room Case Study | Pudsey | West Yorkshire

Published: 6 March 2019

Bathing Problem:

Ms Robertson had an existing small shower room that consisted of a standard height WC with extension seat, basin pedestal and a quadrant shower enclosure with removable stool.

With a high step up into the shower and full length sliding doors for concealment the existing facilities had become increasingly difficult to manage, especially for the carers who visited Ms Robertson to help her wash and bathe.

Bathing Solution:

Visiting our Leeds Mobility Bathroom Showroom in the first instance, Ms Robertson’s Daughter-in-law was keen to discuss the various solutions available to facilitate a quick and efficient adaptation that focused on the main troublesome areas of the existing bathroom.

Having been impressed with More Ability Surveyor & Designer, Andy’s, knowledge in the showroom an appointment was arranged whereby Andy visited Ms Robertson’s property to survey the existing bathroom in more detail. Predominantly concentrating on the shower area, Andy proposed removing the existing enclosure and reinstalling a specially designed, carer assisted, level access disabled shower solution.

Installation Outcome:

A quick and efficient disabled shower room adaptation that focused on overcoming the main troublesome areas resulted in a functional carer assisted showering solution that was suitable for simultaneous end-user and care giver use.

Featuring a new comfort raised height WC the level access disabled shower was enclosed behind bi-folding half-height doors, perfect for an assisted bathroom design as they allow for a carer to lean over and assist with washing without themselves getting wet. Making good to the walls in the wet area complimentary walls boards were installed that matched the existing tiling and new, anti-slip safety vinyl was applied to the floor with a number of strategically placed grab bars in key high risk areas.

What Ms Robertson said about More Ability:

“Very professional company with a great knowledge of the needs and requirements of their clients. Steve was very open and informative of all processes of work undertaken.”
