Disabled Wet Room Case Study | Halifax | West Yorkshire
Published: 29 June 2017
Problem:
Mr & Mrs Bates existing bathroom was by no means fit for their personal requirements, wants and needs. Resided in a flat the narrow and tight space consisted of an over bath shower with transfer board, pedestal basin, close coupled WC and, due to the nature of their accommodation, also featured a pulling clothes airier as they have no other means of drying their washing.
Although small scale adaptations had been installed in the form of the bath board and grab rails, the existing set up was still very unsafe, making Mrs Bates very reluctant to use the existing fixtures and fittings for fear of slipping, tripping or falling.
Solution:
Being a DIY enthusiast, Mr Bates (and Mrs) had a good idea of what they wanted to achieve within the adaptation works however, due to available space and specific requirements, were suspicious as to whether the design they wanted was possible.
Looking for a professional opinion and technical know-how Mr & Mrs Bates invited More Ability Surveyor & Designer, Nigel, into their home to discuss the bathroom works in more detail. Discussing everything on site, Nigel proposed a suitable design that, not only took into consideration their personal preferences, but also worked specifically for Mrs Bates needs and requirements however equally lent itself perfectly for multi-use and occupancy if and when the time for such presented itself.
Outcome:
With personalisation and reassurance at the core of the project the finished adaptation was everything the couple could have hoped for and more besides. Featuring bespoke fixtures and fittings to ensure all needs and requirements of the users were met the newly transformed bath to safe and accessible wet floor shower conversion consisted of custom designed half height entry and exit doors, a multi-use support pole and a purpose built toiletry shelf and the infamous pulling clothes airier.
