Mobility Wet Room Case Study | Harrogate | North Yorkshire

Published: 6 April 2016

Problem:

Mrs Gittens had a dated, teal green, 4 piece bathroom suite consisting of a WC, bidet, wall-to-wall enclosed bath and a vanity basin unit. Given the number of DIY adaptations including a series of strategically placed grab rails and a high rise toilet frame it was safe to say bathing had become a troublesome area. General access was a huge concern for the fact Mrs Gittens now walked with a zimmer frame and for that reason accessible bathing had become impossible.

Mrs Gittens wanted the freedom and independence to bathe safely within her own home whereby her daughter, who had relocated to Germany wanted complete peace of mind.

Solution:

Wanting to give Mrs Gittens and her daughter the perfect solution More Ability Surveyor & Designer, Nigel Dawson, spoke about all possible adaptations that could and would make bathing safe and accessible. Although Nigel wanted to ensure the solution looked well Mrs Gittens was more concerned over functional appeal than aesthetics – she just wanted to be able to enjoy bathing.

That said, and taking possible deterioration into account Nigel proposed a complete wet room solution to allow for complete manoeuvrability for all present and future needs.

Outcome:

The perfect safe, practical and future proofed solution meant Mrs Gittens bathroom was transformed from a un-usable and inaccessible pokey space to an open, safe and highly functional wet room. To finish off the ultimate mobility suite Nigel incorporated a wall mounted shower seat with thermostatic controlled mixer valves, high rise WC, high rise toilet and fully slip resistant vinyl throughout.

what mrs gittens said about more ability:

"Many, many, thanks for your help and excellent service from start to finish."
