Mobility Wet Room Case Study | Harrogate | North Yorkshire

Published: 4 May 2017

Problem:

Ms Seddon was an older lady who lived independently within her own home. Due to age and deterioration of mobility her daughter contacted More Ability as she wanted to create an accessible bathing environment to ensure her mum’s safety while in use.

Although the existing small shower room was in relatively good working order, albeit slightly dated, it was not practical and as a result becoming increasingly unmanageable. Consisting of a high step corner shower enclosure with removable stool, a vanity basin unit and matching storage cupboard and close-coupled WC with raised toilet seat the room was half tiled with wood effect laminate flooring.

Solution:

With her daughter driving the enquiry Ms Seddon required the help, advice and direction of More Ability Surveyor & Designer Paul Tarbard, in order to come to a conclusion on what solution would be best to suite her wants, needs and requirements.

Given the size of the room Paul proposed the idea of a bespoke wet floor shower solution as they would facilitate a purpose built design; allowing the creation of a shower area that provided a safe and manoeuvrable space for Ms Seddon to shower use, whether stood or seated.

Outcome:

A small, cramped, unsafe and unpractical shower room was transformed into an easy access solution that catered for Ms Seddon’s individual wants, needs and requirements.

Along with the purpose built accessible wet floor shower area the room was enhanced further with the installation of a raised height WC and a wall hung basin which provided the illusion of space, thanks to the visible floor space, and could be used stood or seated.

what mrs seddon said about more ability:

“I’m delighted with the whole room. Please pass on my thanks to Paul Tarbard for his design and to Paul, the installer, who carried out such a brilliant job.”
