Accessible Walk-In Shower Case Study | Leeds | West Yorkshire

Published: 9 March 2016

Problem:

Mrs Brown was an older lady who suffered with an arthritic condition affecting her legs and lower back and as a result was struggling getting in and out of her existing bath. Weakened and unstable on her feet Mrs Brown was looking for an accessible bathroom solution to accompany her wishes to refurbish and modernise her dated 3 piece suite.

Solution:

Initially Mrs Brown was convinced the solution to her bathing problem was that of a walk-in bath which would allow her to continue to enjoy a relaxing soak and ease of access. However as More Ability Surveyor & Designer, Nigel Dawson highlighted the condition in which Mrs Brown was up against was one of deterioration and despite being able to access the walk-in bath now it would become a problematic area in years to come due to the high step.

Similarly a walk-in bath require you sit in while you fill it up and stay in until it is drained, something which Nigel explained to Mrs Brown which resulted in her looking at other options. In order to completely future proof the bathroom Nigel presented an array of shower solutions offering expert help, advice and guidance along the way until a decision on best fit ‘for purpose’ and personal preference / taste was made.

Outcome:

Following discussions Mrs Brown fell in love with the low level walk-in shower concept with glass fronted bi-folding doors and as a result decided this was the solution she both wanted and needed. To accompany this stylish and accessible solution Nigel suggested a high rise WC and matching pedestal basin, both essential future proofing fixtures, and finished the room with full floor to ceiling wall tiles and anti-slip vinyl flooring.
