Accessible Wet Floor Shower Case Study | Huddersfield | West Yorkshire

Published: 18 November 2015

Problem:

Mr & Mrs Roberts had a brand new, fully tiled, 3 piece bathroom suite, consisting of 2 separate WC & basin vanity units at either end of the bathroom and a P shaped bath with shower mixer. This bathroom was installed only a number of years previous so was in great condition however due to an unsuspected illness the bath was no longer adequate as it had become increasingly unsafe when entering and existing.

Solution:

More Ability Surveyor & Designer, Nigel Dawson, discussed all the possible solutions with the couple while taking an existing look at the bathroom together. Nigel was very familiar with the overriding problem of not being able to get in and out of the bath however due to not wanting to rip out the entirety of the bathroom to solve this required a weighing of two factors – a tidy, and undisruptive solution which would preserve the majority of the bathroom but be designed to fit with the existing fixtures.

Outcome:

Nigel designed Mr & Mrs Roberts a wet floor shower solution, inclusive of corian bench and glass flipper screen. Due to removing the bath the area around the shower required recovering as it was no longer water tight and the tiles had stopped where the bath have been installed. To ensure consisting and safety Nigel also suggested changing the floor to slip resistant vinyl. The installed shower solution suited the existing design of the suite perfectly and also offered the couple a safe and stylish alternative to bathing which would meet their requirements for years to come.
