Mrs Saperia, Beeston, Leeds - an all-encompassing shower room solution

Problem:

Mrs Saperia had a small, off white, 2 piece bathroom suite that had previously undergone a number of DIY adaptations in the form of a wash basin support stand for balance and grab rails to the side of the bath to help lift and heave herself out of the water.

A common bathing problem we hear time after time is that of someone struggling to get out the bath in older age due to the upper body strength required to pull themselves out of the water and this was the exact problem we needed to solve here.  

Solution:

Mrs Saperia had a deteriorating mobility condition that meant we needed to address the problem at present and any future problems that may arise. We categorise our bathroom solutions into 3 areas: stylish, safe & practical and bespoke and present the one we feel most relevant to an individual’s wants and needs – for Mrs Saperia we decided to combine the 3.

More Ability surveyor & designer, Nigel Dawson, spoke at lengths with Mrs Saperia, both at her home and in our showroom, to really address what was needed to help solve her bathing problem and what she wanted it to look and feel like in her home.

The result was a bespoke, safe & practical level access shower solution enclosed behind a stylish glass screen. We also provided a raised height basin to reduce the need to bend over the unit and an adjustable Mira lever shower mixer with thermostatic controls.

Outcome:

The finished suite was an all-encompassing shower room solution. Bespoke for future proofed requirements in the form of being suitable for wheel-in scenarios and carer assisted showering. Safe & practical in the sense that the basin was raised height and a seat was installed in the shower unit allowing Mrs Saperia to remain independent for many years to come. Finally the stylish element can be seen within the suites finishing touches – the glass enclosure, thermostatic shower mixer & basin taps and striking burgundy flooring giving the room a clean and warm look and feel.
