Being an independent senior, living in a big city perhaps some distance from family, can be a lonely situation. It’s not as easy to get about, the hustle and bustle can be stressful and somewhat daunting to the point of potentially isolating one’s self for the fear of the unknown.

Times have changed and quite dramatically in the last decade but what have we done as a nation, no, what have we done as a city to ensure the elderly population are able to change with the times and be involved, socially engaged, independent and happy?

Caring for an elderly parent.

The UK population is ageing with current predictions indicate that by 2034 23% of the UK population will be over 65. This, of course is great news, however doesn’t come without obstacles. 

With an increasing number of seniors comes an increasing number of seniors in need of care. In fact, the number of people aged 65 and over in need of some form of care and/or support in order to continue to live safely and independently is set to increase to 1.7million over the next 20 years. This is the major obstacle that we must overcome.
