Accessible Wet Floor Shower Room Case Study | Wakefield | West Yorkshire

2 March 2022

Problem:

Mr & Mrs Askham’s existing 2 piece shower room consisted of an enclosed shower and basin with a WC located in a separate room.

With the step up on the shower cubicle too high for access, they hoped to transform their bathroom into a space that is both stylish and safe for them to use.

Design Solution:

In search of a suitable accessible bathroom Mr & Mrs Askham’s friend booked a free design appointment online on their behalf for a Senior More Ability Designer to visit their home, survey their bathroom and discuss their wants and needs.

Visited by Senior Designer Nigel, Mr & Mrs Askham discussed with him the best options available for their mobility requirements, to which they both agreed would be an accessible wet floor shower so they no longer had to step up onto a tray to get into the shower.

Happy to go ahead, Nigel then invited Mr & Mrs Askham to our Leeds disabled bathroom showroom to present them with a visual CAD design, helping them to envision the new look of their bespoke accessible wet floor shower room. Nigel also assisted them with choosing their final fixtures and fittings.

Accessible Wet Floor Shower Installation:

A stunning accessible wet floor shower was installed by Multi-Skilled Fitter Graham.

The shower consisted of a bespoke Corian bench, providing Mr & Mrs Askham with the option to rest their legs whilst bathing. It also included half height doors and a shower curtain to prevent water splashing around the room whilst providing ease of access and additional privacy, should Mr & Mrs Askham require bathing support from a carer in the future.

Modern beige large ceramic tiling was combined with brown anti slip vinyl flooring creating warmth within the room.

The accessible bathroom design also included installation of a modern wave chrome grab bar providing mobility support, a wide basin and large mirror which created the illusion of a larger space by bouncing natural light around the room.

Outcome:

An unsuitable shower room was transformed into a safe and spacious accessible wet floor shower room with modern fixtures and fittings.
