Disabled Wet Room Case Study | Leeds | West Yorkshire

Published: 28 April 2016

Problem:

Mr & Mrs Taylor were existing customers that over 25 years ago had us carry out works to their bathroom. The existing 3 piece green suite consisted of a bath, pedestal basin and WC that had become unusable and dated. It was with regret that on this occasion the renovation works were to include adapting their bathroom, inclusive of internal building works, converting it from a bathroom to a bespoke showering solution to allow for assisted bathing.

Solution:

More Ability Surveyor & Designer, Nigel Dawson, spoke in detail with the couple to determine exactly what was required in order for them to live safely, comfortably and independently within their own home. It soon became apparent that a completely accessible and self-attained bespoke shower solution was the only option that would overcome all present and future issues.

Nigel also proposed to carry out internal building works in order to extend the size of the bathroom by cutting in to the adjacent bedroom. This would allow for walk-in, wheel-in or zimmer-in bathing and would increase the surface area and allow for ease of manoeuvrability, which in a bath or shower room where water is present is paramount for safety.

Outcome:

The once inadequate and unusable bathroom was transformed in to a spacious, bespoke and completely accessible wet floor shower solution that, due to design, could be used independently or with assistance. The all-encompassing wet room was now inclusive of a deep pedestal wall hung basin and high rise WC with slip resistant vinyl to the floor and beige tiles to the walls.

what mr & mrs taylor said about more ability:

We wish to commend Nigel Dawson who promptly undertook the home visit, the design layout, CAD drawings and the estimate of our bathroom Adaptation work. We also commend Glen & Nathan and all the other members of the team who undertook the building work, as they exercised a very high standard of workmanship and care, listening to and interpreting the final aims to achieve the best form of layout and finish, so as to provide an excellent looking bathroom with a good practical modern layout which was completed on time.”
